Medical massage differs from therapeutic or “wellness” massage in that the former is a medical necessity prescribed by a physician or chiropractor and the latter is a personal service initiated by the client without referral interface. Medical massage requires a prescription from a referring doctor and pre-authorization of benefits for insurance purposes.
Many of today’s health problems can benefit from massage therapy because the manipulation of soft tissues affects so many of our bodily systems. Massage therapy aims to relax tight and tense muscles, improve circulation, recovery time and immune system function. Massage is also effective in the control of chronic or acute pain, in stress reduction, and in creating a sense of relaxation and well being. We provide many styles of therapeutic massage and bodywork to assist you with your wellness goals.
These styles (called “modalities”) include:
Basic massage technique of soothing, calming and healing strokes for full body integration and relaxation. The many benefits of Swedish massage may include generalized relaxation, dissolution of scar tissue adhesions, and improved circulation, which may speed healing and reduce swelling from injury.
Helps with chronic muscular pain and injury rehabilitation. Reduces inflammation-related pain caused by arthritis and tendonitis. It is generally integrated with other massage techniques.
Therapeutic massage tailored to the specific needs of our senior clientele. We offer senior discounts Monday through Friday before noon.
Targeted work to decrease muscle spasms caused by postural problems or injuries, including repetitive motion.
Designed to enhance athletic performance and recovery. Additionally, when an athletic individual sustains an injury, skillful massage therapy can often speed and improve the quality of healing.
An effective therapeutic approach in the relief of cervical pain, back pain, fibromyalgia, scoliosis, neurological dysfunction, restriction of motion, chronic pain, and headaches.
This involves application of pressure to reflex zones in the feet, hands and ears to clear out congestion and restore normal function by stimulating organs. It reduces pain, increases relaxation, and stimulates circulation of blood and lymphatic fluids.
Performed by a trained perinatal specialist – many methods of massage are effective and safe prenatally and postpartum. Benefits of prenatal/postpartum massage include relief from aches and pains, warding off fatigue and promoting rapid healing.
Stone massage involves the use of heated smooth river rocks and cooled marble stones applied to the body in various patterns to bring relief to stiff or sore muscles and to open energy flow. Heated stones are used to administer the massage and their use provides a deep, soothing release. Once the heat has dissipated slightly, the stones are placed on the body in strategic locations for continued warmth and relaxation. Each sessions takes 75 minutes and will leave you feeling revitalized, pampered and nurtured. Please schedule at a time when you can relax afterward so the benefits are optimized.
Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, noninvasive method of evaluating and enhancing the function of a physiological body arrangement called the craniosacral system. Developed by John E. Upledger, DO, OMM, this manual therapy enhances the body’s natural healing processes and has proven effective in treating a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction.
Developed in Japan, shiatsu is a finger-pressure technique utilizing traditional acupuncture points. Similar to acupressure, shiatsu concentrates on unblocking the flow of life energy and restoring balance in the meridians and organs in order to promote self-healing. The benefits of this treatment may include pain relief and a strengthening of the body’s resistance to disease and disorder.
